GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)

Any organization under:
(i) Central Government/State Government/Local body
(ii) Registered Private or Public Trust
(iii) Missionary or any other organization registered under Society Registration Act
(iv) Company incorporated under section 8 of Company’s act
are eligible to establish General Nursing and Midwifery School of Nursing.

  • Any organization having 100 bedded Parent (Own) hospital is eligible to establish General Nursing Course.
  • Above organization shall obtain the Essentiality Certificate/No Objection Certificate for the General Nursing and Midwifery programme from the respective State Government. The institution name along with Trust Deed/Society address shall be mentioned in No Objection Certificate/Essentiality Certificate.
  • An application form to establish Nursing programme is available on the website viz., indianursingcouncil.org, which shall be downloaded. Duly filled in application form with the requisite documents mentioned in the form shall be submitted before the last date as per the calendar of events of that year.
  • The Indian Nursing Council on receipt of the proposal from the Institution to start nursing programme, will undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the programme.
  • After the receipt of the permission to start the nursing programme from Indian Nursing Council, the institution shall obtain the approval from the State Nursing Council and Examination Board.
  • Before the admission of the students next year institute will submit the renewal/validity form as per the calendar of events every year. However INC may conduct yearly inspection.
  • Institution will admit the students only after taking approval of State Nursing Council Examination Board.

Note:

If, no admission are made for two consecutive academic years then it shall be considered as closed for the said programme.

If the institution wants to restart the programme they have to submit the first inspection fees within 5 years i.e., from the year they did not have admissions. Guidelines of the year wherein institute was first permitted will be applicable

Competencies

On completion of the course, the GNM will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioral sciences in providing nursing care.
  • Provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services in line with national health policies and programs.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills required to deliver comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Practice ethical values and legal responsibilities while providing nursing care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the health team.
  • Demonstrate leadership and decision-making abilities in clinical and community health settings.
  • Utilize the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
  • Participate in teaching, health education, and counseling of individuals, families, and groups.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team in rendering holistic patient care.
  • Maintain records and reports related to nursing care accurately and promptly.
  • Engage in professional growth through continuing education and participation in research.
  • Recognize the need for and participate in community health activities and national health programs.
  • Demonstrate skill in emergency care, disaster nursing, and first aid.
  • Exhibit accountability, responsibility, and commitment to the profession.

Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM)

Guidelines to Start A.N.M. Course

  • Any organization under the Central Government  State Government, Local body or a Private or Public Trust, Mission, Voluntaryorganization registered under Society Registration Act or a Company registered under companies act wishes to open an ANM Training School, should obtain the No Objection/Essentiality certificate from the State Government.
  • The Goa Nursing Council on receipt of the proposal from the Institution to start ANM training program along with a copy of No Objection/Essentiality certificate obtained from the State Government, will issue aconsent letterand undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the program.
  • The institution shall obtain the approval from Indian Nursing council as per INC guidelines
  • Institution will admit the students only after taking approval ofIndian Nursing council and Examination Board of the state.
  • The Goa Nursing Council will conduct inspection every year till the first batch completes the program. Permission will be given year by year till the first batch passes out.

Competencies

On completion of the course, the ANM will be able to:

  • Appreciatetheconceptofholistichealth andunderstandthe influence of socioeconomic and environmental factors on thehealth status of the community.
  • Identify health problems/needs and resources in the communityand mobilize social support for active participation ofthecommunityin healthcare activities
  • Provide preventive,promotive,restorativeandemergencyhealth care to individuals and community as required.
  • Provide treatment of minor ailments.
  • Provide skilled midwifery services to all mothers in the community and refer mothers at risk to hospitals.
  • Provide skilled care to all neonates in community and refer neonates at risk to the appropriate levels.
  • Render skilled child care services at home, clinic and school.
  • Guide/Train birth attendants, Anganwadi workers (AWW)s, other community health activists and volunteers.
  • Provide need-based information and counseling related to health of individuals, family and groups.
  • Participate in all the National health and Family welfare programmes at community level.
  • Act as a team member in the health care delivery system.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the other health team members and community based organizations, non-govt. organizations (NGO) and village administration.
  • Manage the health centre including equipments and supplies, and maintain the records in order to provide quality based people friendly services.
  • Updates knowledge and skills for professional and personal growth.

Nursing

Guidelines to Start B.Sc. Course

  • Any organization under the Central Government, State Government, Local body or a Private or Public Trust, Mission, Voluntary registered under Society Registration Act or a Company registered under companies act wishes to open a School/College of Nursing, should obtain the No Objection/Essentiality certificate from the State government.
  • TheGoa Nursing Council on receipt of the proposal from the Institution to start B.Sc. program along with a copy of No Objection/Essentiality certificate obtained from the State Government, will issue aconsent letterand undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the program.
  • The institution shall obtaintheapprovalfrom Indian Nursing council and University.
  • Institution will admit the students only after taking approval ofIndianNursing Council and University.
  • The Goa Nursing Council will conduct inspection every year till the first batch completes the program. Permission will be given year by year till the first batch completes the training.

Competencies

On completion of the four year B.Sc. Nursing program the graduatewillbe able to:

  • Applyknowledgefromphysical,biological, and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systemsandnursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
  • Providenursingcarebasedonstepsofnursingprocessin collaboration with the individuals and groups.
  • Demonstratecritical thinkingskillinmakingdecisionsinall situations in order to provide quality care.
  • Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  • Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  • Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice withinthelegal boundaries.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  • Demonstrateskills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/communityhealth settings.
  • Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/ community health settings.
  • Conduct need based researchstudiesinvarioussettingsand utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc. Nursing)

  • Any organization under the Central Government, State Government, Local body or a Private or Public Trust, Mission, Voluntary registered under Society Registration Act or a Company registered under companies act wishes to open a M.Sc. Nursing program, should obtain the No Objection/Essentiality certificate from the State Government.
  • The Goa Nursing Council on receipt of the proposal from the Institution to startM.Sc. Nursingprogram along with a copy of No Objection/Essentiality certificate obtained from the State Government, will issue aconsent letterand undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the program.
  • The institution shall obtaintheapprovalfrom Indian Nursing council and University.
  • Institution will admit the students only after taking approval ofIndianNursing Council and Examination Board/university.
  • The Goa Nursing Council will conduct inspection every yeartillthe first batch completes the program. Permission will be given year by year till the first batch completes the training.
  • Super Speciality Hospital can start M.Sc.(N) programme, however they have to get NOC/Essentiality certificate from respective State Government to start the M.Sc. (N) programme.
